Maya stands for “Good Mother” and is of Greek Origin. This bag was designed for my dear friend Michelle and speaks to her minimalist approach to life. She literally only carries essentials with her, most often everything has to fit into a tiny zip pouch.

This bag is based also a little on the history of bags. Originally only men wore satchels or bags to keep their belongings safe. With the first trading the drawstring satchel kept their coins, precious stones and minerals (whatever they traded with) safe. Women only started wearing satchel like bags later when they started travelling to keep their "handkerchiefs" and train tickets safe. This bag is reminiscent of that era.

I originally designed this little gem with a Hoop Ring Handle, but my testers came up with many alternatives.

Special thanks to Chanova Alcala Mabry from That’s Sew Nova for providing a full-length video tutorial for this pattern: coming on the 2nd of March 2024
